Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine was interviewed by the South China Morning Post and spoke about his current state of health, his happiness at receiving a Grammy, and the protests the band faced before playing a show in Malaysia.
Asked about how he recovered from the 2014 surgery, when a piece of bone was removed near his spine, Mustaine revealed:
“The hardest part wasn’t headbanging. I do that without thinking. You don’t know what it’s like to be in my body. There are days when my left hand can’t even play. I don’t practice. I save everything for the tour.”.
Speaking about receiving a Grammy for Dystopia and the event's band playing Metallica, Mustaine commented: “Winning the Grammy was like taking off a pair of very tight shoes. It's funny when people say they sabotaged us. I was busy receiving a Grammy, I didn't care.”
Mustaine also commented on the Malaysian protests, explaining:
“They cleared us. We received official confirmation that there was no longer a ban against us. It was a misunderstanding; they thought we were a Black Metal band, but we're not at all. Many Black Metal bands dislike me because of my faith.”.
